Converting Manual PI Submissions Directly into the Portal

NBS Underwriting has introduced AI-enabled submission technology that transforms emailed proposal forms into portal-ready quote submissions. Launching first for Professional Indemnity, the process extracts key data from manual submissions and maps it to our portal question set, reducing rekeying and duplication for brokers and underwriters alike — improving speed and efficiency while keeping underwriting decisions consistent and firmly underwriter-led.

Built to reduce admin, without changing underwriting

We know that completing portal submissions can take time, and that email remains the most practical route for many manual submissions. This technology has been introduced to improve efficiency on both sides: reducing repeat data entry for brokers, removing manual rekeying for underwriters, and increasing turnaround speed — without changing the appetite, expertise and consistency brokers expect from NBS.

How it works

Brokers simply email a proposal form or manual submission to the NBS PI team. From there:

  • AI tools extract key information from the proposal and upload this directly to our portal question set
  • The submission is then checked for completeness and underwritten as usual by our underwriting team

This enhancement improves the submission process, not the underwriting approach. Every risk continues to be assessed by experienced underwriters, ensuring the same consistency and decision-making standards.

What’s next

Following the PI rollout, we plan to extend this capability to additional products this year, giving brokers a consistent manual submission route across more of the NBS portfolio. This will include accepting proposal information pulled from e-trade platforms (such as Acturis), making it easier to approach NBS for an alternative quote without adding extra administration.
