The Leadership Team
The NBS leadership team have unrivalled experience in our industry and are all involved daily in the development of new and existing products. We work hard to develop a great team that deliver exceptional customer service and build strong relationships with our broker and insurance partners.
Chief Executive Officer
With forty years’ of industry experience including major composite and Lloyd’s syndicates, Stan was the driving force behind the RiskAlliance Group which included NBS. Stan continues to manage our high-level insurer relationships.
Steve established NBS in 2011. Having covered every role in the business in the early days he looks after all areas of the rapidly expanding business but now spends most of his time concentrating on sales and distribution, working closely with the business development team. A lot of time is spent building relationships with insurers and brokers – both existing and new. His hands-on approach means he is involved with every insurer and every broker relationship, ensuring each receive the highest levels of service. Steve has a passion for recruitment and development of the team, ensuring NBS always deliver fantastic results.
Paul has over 25 years’ experience gained across the insurer, MGA and broker sectors working for Aviva, Primary, Towergate/Broker Network, LV and Club Insure before joining NBS in Jan 2020 as Underwriting Director. Paul is responsible for NBS’s approach to all aspects of our underwriting, including loss ratios, product development and staff training, and has actively strengthened this area of the business since joining.
Schemes Operations Director
Rachel joined NBS in 2011, from RiskAlliance Limited where she started her career. She has covered every role within NBS and was invited to join the board in 2020 as Schemes Operations Director. This involves leading the management and development of our online quotation platform and as she knows everything there is to know about NBS, manages the logistics that are the foundation of the service NBS offers to our broker partners.
Risk & Compliance Director
Andrew began his insurance career on the highstreet before working for a specialist commercial broker servicing a diverse client portfolio throughout the UK and Ireland. Since 2010 Andrew has been part of the RiskAlliance Group and was a founding member of NBS. Andrew specialises in dealing with the groups risk and compliance functions.
Stuart joined the group in 2010 after spending ten years in audit and financial reporting with large regional practices. Stuart provides oversees the finance team ensuring the reporting is both timely and accurate. His day-to-day role encompasses MI, budgeting, external reporting and treasury management. Stuart is heavily involved in group M&A managing both acquisitions and disposals. Stuart undertakes a key role in the liaison with the wider Accelerant group and third parties, managing the audit and financial reporting process and compliance. Stuart also serves as Company Secretary for all companies across the group.
Business Development Managers
Accessibility is key, so our Business Development Managers are on hand for customer service visits, new agency enquiries, scheme and portfolio transfers. Our development team helps facilitate our speed of delivery and partners our underwriters while working with our broker partners to ensure we find positive solutions.
Business Development Manager
Julian is a Business Development Manager for NBS and has over 20 years’ experience in the industry. Julian has run his own underwriting agency and brokerage, has been the Underwriting manager for a large regional broker and a development underwriter for an MGA. Julian looks forward to visiting and working with our current and prospective broker network in the UK, listening and acting on their feedback to continue the proposition development and service that our brokers expect.
Business Development Manager
David is the Northern Business Development Manager for NBS and has over 20 years’ experience in the industry. Prior to joining NBS he worked for a Composite Insurer for over 10 years, working with Brokers across the UK and across many varied sector specialisms. He looks forward to visiting and working with our current and prospective broker network in the UK, listening and acting on their feedback to continue the proposition development and service that our brokers expect.
Underwriting Manager (Development)
Ian joined NBS in July 2020 to support the development of new and existing products and more recently has taken on wider responsibilities working with our claims team. Ian has over 20 years’ experience in the industry, including various underwriting and broker facing development roles across the country. Ian currently holds the position of National Forum Officer with the CII, has been a president of Halifax CII and remains an active council member, focusing on the learning and development of CII members within Halifax and surrounding areas.
Underwriting Manager (Household)
Rob joined NBS in 2014, bringing with him 6 years’ previous insurance industry experience both in Lloyd’s and the regional markets. Rob’s many responsibilities include managing our non-standard household products, underwriting, and developing broker and insurer relationships.
Underwriting Manager (Technical & Training)
John joined NBS in July 2020 and now has over 30 years’ experience in commercial insurance, having held senior underwriting positions in both large composite insurers and MGAs. With a keen eye for detail, he actually enjoys interpreting and improving policy wordings; and having previously been a professional insurance trainer, he is enthusiastic about training and developing NBS staff so they can reach their full potential and deliver our broker partners the best possible service.
Commercial New Business
Senior Underwriter & Broker Development
Rita joined NBS back in 2012 as a Scheme Underwriter. She has over 30 years’ of insurance experience under her belt, the majority of which were spent within the RiskAlliance Group. Rita has vast experience of underwriting all classes of commercial insurance.
New Business Team Leader & Senior Underwriter
Laura began her insurance career with NBS in 2017, after graduating university. She specialises in the new business department, underwriting a wide range of commercial risks and also spends time working alongside the renewals team. Since joining NBS, Laura has progressed to Team Leader and is responsible for training and developing new team members within the new business department.
Alfie joined NBS in May 2018 as an Underwriter in the renewals team and has now moved on to an underwriting position within the fast-growing new business team. He has also taken on a marketing role to support and promote the business’s social media efforts as the company continues to develop its presence in the SME market space.
Claire joined NBS in May 2018 after looking to start a new career where she could challenge herself and provide exceptional service to our brokers. She is now primarily involved in the new business team underwriting commercial risks.
Harry joined NBS in April 2019 from a background of office administration, including working as a consultant for commercial and residential property insurance. With a keen eye for detail and dedication to the job he endeavours to provide an excellent service every day and to every broker, as part of the new business team.
Madeleine joined NBS in September 2019. She has over 25 years’ insurance experience and has worked for insurers as well as brokers, underwriting all classes of personal lines, she also has claims and niche scheme business experience.
Jess joined NBS in September 2019, looking to start a new role after spending 6 years working in quality assurance and risk management within the financial sector. She is now primarily involved in the new business team underwriting commercial risks.
Tom joined NBS in 2020 as an Underwriter. He has over 5 years’ insurance experience and has been part of the RiskAlliance Group since May 2017. Tom began his insurance career in brokering and has placed business in a number of different sectors, including life, travel, holiday home, motorhome and caravan insurance.
Anna joined NBS in 2020 and has worked in the insurance industry for almost 3 years prior to joining NBS from a role in commercial underwriting. Anna is responsible for underwriting new business with a keen eye for detail and dedication to the job. She endeavours to provide an excellent service every day and to every broker partner.
Beth joined NBS in September 2020. Her very first insurance industry role was in 2017 working for Provident Motor Insurance at Covéa Insurance Plc, as a consultant working directly with customers over the phone, to ensure a seamless car insurance journey. She brings all the experience she gained in 3 years at Covéa to NBS and continues to expand her knowledge and experience here at NBS, providing high levels of service as a Commercial Underwriter.
Harry joined NBS in December 2020 as an Underwriter after graduating from university with a first class degree in economics. He focuses his time in the fast-growing new business department, underwriting a wide variety of commercial risks.
Jake joined NBS in January 2021 from an apprenticeship program for a major insurer. He has experience in motor insurance claims but is now looking to broaden his insurance knowledge and spends his time in the new business department as an underwriter.
Arun joined NBS in May 2021 after graduating from university with a first class degree in international business. He has underwriting experience in legal indemnities after completing a placement year at CLS Risk Solutions.
Jodie started at NBS in 2021 and has 10 years of insurance experience, gaining her Cert CII in 2015. She brings with her a varied background has been in caravan, household and fleet motor claims.
Rachel joined NBS in March 2012 from our sister company RiskAlliance Insurance Brokers Ltd, where she was a Compliance Officer. Rachel has a keen eye for detail and is primarily involved in the Renewals team underwriting commercial risks. She has significant insurance experience being in the industry for over 30 years.
Renewals Team Leader & Senior Underwriter
Brad began his insurance career with Swinton in 2010, working as a broker direct to the public. He joined NBS in September 2017 working in the renewals team, bringing with him a vast range of knowledge on all product lines. Since joining NBS, Brad has progressed to Team Leader and is responsible for training and developing new team members in the renewals department.
Shewar joined NBS in May 2018, bringing with her vast insurance knowledge from her previous roles. Her first insurance industry role was in 2008 in the renewals department at Santander. She then moved on to Swinton in 2012 covering personal lines, dealing direct with both the public and brokers.
Beth joined NBS in 2018 to develop her career after previously working as a personal lines claims handler at Direct Line, following her apprenticeship as an underwriter. Beth works within the renewals team, offering extensive knowledge and experience of personal underwriting and claims handling.
James is new to NBS and the insurance industry but has quickly demonstrated his dedication and hard work. He is currently working towards his CII status and supports the team to ensure we deliver high quality service to all our brokers.
Daniel joined the NBS team in 2017, to work within the renewals department as an Underwriter. He brought 2 years’ insurance brokering experience with him. He quickly became a Team Leader and took responsibility for training new team members. In October 2019, Dan decided to change his career path and took the role of Claims Manager, dealing with in-depth claims and underwriting queries from brokers and loss adjusters. In July 2020 Daniel re-joined the renewals team to focus on being an Underwriter within the team.
Lucy joined NBS in October 2020 seeking a new career challenge. She brought her experience in exceptional customer service to the team, with the intention to grow and develop within the business. She is now working in the Renewals department of the business, where she is delivering on her promise and offering exceptional service to our brokers.
Toni joined NBS in January 2021, it is her first role in the insurance industry, she hopes to bring her knowledge gained from previous experience from working in both a law firm and stockbroking. Toni aims to bring her social skills and work ethic to the renewals team to build relationships with brokers and to help NBS grow. Her goal is to progress in the industry and will start this process by working towards her CII status.
Maya joined NBS in April 2021 and although it is her first role within the insurance industry, she brings with her experience and transferable skills from her previous roles within the financial sector, lastly being Yorkshire Bank. Her goal is to help NBS grow and to personally develop within the business, as she works towards her CII status.
Dilan recently joined the business in July 2021, bringing with him previous experience from the Insurance industry gained whilst working at Swinton Insurance for six years, where he started as a call centre Agent before moving in to a Quality Analyst role, monitoring various types of sales transactions within the call centre and branches. His desire is to bring knowledge and skills that he has developed during his working career to NBS to drive the growth of the business even further.
Ashley started working in non-standard household insurance in 2012, joining NBS in 2015. He is responsible for underwriting new business and developing strong broker relationships with new and existing brokers, all this whilst still delivering and overseeing high standard of service.
Guy started his insurance career with SAGA in 2010, before moving to underwriting in 2015, focusing on non-standard Home insurance at a MGA which sat within the RiskAlliance Group. In 2017 he moved into NBS, working as an Underwriter in the non-standard household team concentrating on renewals.
Ashley joined NBS in 2020 after two years travelling and working in Australia, prior to that he worked at Saga in the home and motor departments for several years. Ashley is already making an impact delivering service and competitive quotes for all our brokers.
Senior Claims Handler
Emily joined NBS in September 2018 to develop her career after previously working as a broker for Coversure Insurance Services. Emily works within the claims team bringing with her experience and knowledge of personal and commercial lines. Emily is responsible for the training of the other members of the claims team and deals with in-depth claims and underwriting queries from brokers and loss adjusters.
Emily joined NBS in September 2020 and works in the claims team having previously worked in a variety of different roles – predominantly as a motor, pet and household insurance claims handler.
Isaac started with NBS in June 2021, in our fast-paced claims team. This is a complete change for him, as his previous role was property maintenance in the education sector after finishing his education. He is a great addition to the team and hopes to carve out a long, successful career in insurance now he has taken his first step into the industry.
Gary has worked at NBS since 2017 and brings with him a varied background from a range of industries over the last 15 years. After starting out in Underwriting with NBS, he now takes on the role of SchemeServe Developer, working on the maintenance and development of our online quoting portal, as well as always being on hand for any other system related queries that may arise.
Rachel joined NBS in June 2019 and brought over 15 years’ insurance accounting experience with her. She looks after all aspects of the NBS accounts, including all day-to-day queries, bordereau production and credit control and has world-class attention to detail skills.
Melissa joined the group in 2011 and has experience in retail insurance and wholesale brokerage, prior to joining the group Melissa had over 10 years’ experience in finance. She produced management accounts across the group and now spends her time producing management accounts and other MI for the wider Accelerant group. She also works with our auditors and external parties across the finance function delivering information.
Jane has vast experience and knowledge in the office management specialism, having worked for national audit firms and boutique finance houses in her career. Jane now fulfils the role as NBS payroll and HR manager, bringing her attention to detail to an ever expanding area.
Tom started at NBS straight from a prestigious local school. His other true passion is sport, and he hopes to bring the same drive, ambition and determination into NBS and his career.
